MTN has made good progress in the past month as 68% of its subscribers who were partially registered have now been fully registered reported by Mandla Luphondvo from MTN. Simultaneously, the number of active SIM cards which remain unregistered has also dropped significantly. Most of the SIM cards which remain unregistered are those with low activity or those that are almost inactive.
In the coming months, MTN will finalise corporate and prepaid registrations which were started later due to software challenges said Luphondvo.
In spite of the good progress made, MTN has a dedicated team to address the balance of partially registered customers and unregistered SIM cards. Further, MTN is working on quality assurance, to ensure that the data provided by customers is accurate and clear.
In the coming month, MTN is said to be addressing the issue of minors that have come of age so that their registration is done appropriately. Other challenges that need to be addressed include finger errors caused by two key factors: digit transpose or some customers providing a wrong number.
Those who have not registered their SIM cards are still encouraged to do so. The primary documents required remain the same, namely – National Identity Document and proof of residence.
