The Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority (ESERA) has announced that the Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) has filed an application for electricity tariff review for the financial years 2023/2024 and 2024/2025.

In a press statement, the regulatory authority said EEC has requested a revenue requirement of E2, 928,869,042.00 for the financial year 2023/24 and a revenue requirement of E3, 441,006,421.00 for the financial year 2024/25. This translates to an average tariff increase of 21.31% (excluding the electrification access fund levy and VAT) for each of the financial years 2023/24 and 2024/25.

“In terms of Section 5 (1) (f) of the Energy Regulatory Act read with Section 32 of the Electricity Act, together with Section 5 and 6 of the Tariff Methodology, the ESERA is mandated to undertake a review, once the request is received by November 1st, and is expected to announce a decision not later than 01 February of the following year, after a 3-month review process,” reads part of the statement.

The public and all interested stakeholders are, therefore, invited to submit their comments on the application for review by the 14th December 2022.
