A 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged for a string of housebreaking and theft of items worth over E20 000 that have occurred over the past few months around Lobamba.

The accused person, Menzi Mashwilane from the Bethany area was arrested by a Lobamba Police officer and further charged with five counts of housebreaking and theft dating back to October, which resulted in the theft of property/items worth E20 232 respectively.

On October 12, Mashwilane allegedly broke into Nkosingphile Tesla’s house and stole property valued at E5 000 which included a biker’s jacket and gloves.

The following month on November 13, he allegedly broke into Masiko Gwebu’s house and stole a microwave and a size nine handi gas worth E2 200 respectively.

On December 9 at Lobamba, he reportedly broke into Mthokozisi Magagula’s house and stole a grey Lenovo laptop valued at E8 900, and on December 11 in the same area, he broke into Robert Gama’s house and stole a black Dixon speaker valued at E1 500 and a carpet worth E650.

Again, on December 12, he broke into Jabu Matsebula’s house where he stole items valued at E1 982. These included an electric kettle, a bucket with scones, avocados, bananas, a pair of scissors and tea bags to name a few.

The suspect appeared before Magistrate Temantimandze Shongwe where he moved a bail application after the crown applied that he be remanded out of custody. Bail was granted at E4 000 under the conditions that he is not to commit a similar offence, does not interfere with state witnesses and ensures to avail himself in court for all remands.

According to the crown, Mashwilane has more charges that need to be added to his charge sheet which he reportedly committed with other suspects, and he will be returning on December 23 for a co-joined.
