Radio is a tool to disseminate accurate information to people. This was the message shared on the Eswatini Broadcasting Information Service (EBIS) current affairs show during a programme called Letishisako, to commemorate World Radio Day held annually on February 13.
The Eswatini Communication Commission (ESCCOM) also highlighted the importance of radio, stating that information shared accordingly and procedurally made radio an educational tool for the people.
The United Nations (UN) Eswatini also commemorated the day by stating that radio was a powerful medium for celebrating humanity in all its diversity and constitutes a platform for promoting peace.
Proclaimed in 2011 by the Member States of UNESCO, and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012 as an International Day, February 13 became World Radio Day (WRD). The theme for the 12th edition of World Radio Day, celebrated on February 13, 2023, is “Radio and Peace”.
