Although Freddy has degraded to a tropical storm and a new possible trajectory shows that it will fall on Inhambane and not Maputo, Eswatini is still not out of danger.
This is according to an update made by the Eswatini Meteorological Services. Meteorologist Phephisa Sihlongonyane said Freddy was degraded into a storm after it fell on Madagascar, and the winds have lost their strength.

He said however, when the storm reached the Mozambican Channel, it would gain more strength and possibly regain its status as a tropical cyclone.
Sihlongonyane said the build-up of high pressures south of the Mozambican Channel would push the storm upwards and it would make landfall in Eastern Mozambique in the region of Inhambane, instead of Maputo as earlier predicted.

He said this was subject to change depending on other weather systems in the ocean and on land when the cyclone makes landfall. He said there were possibilities that it could move south, affecting areas in northern Eswatini.
He said they were still paying close attention to the cyclone, and they would know for sure by Thursday or Friday what is likely to happen.
