Sihlangu head coach Dominic Kunene is set to get a one-year contract extension from the Eswatini Football Association (EFA).

The recent one-year contract for the former Young Buffaloes mentor came to an end on March 31, 2024.

He assumed the hot seat four years ago when he replaced former Orlando Pirates mentor Kostadin Papic, who originates from Serbia.

Kunene recently guided the senior national team to the group stages of the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers after beating Somalia in the recent preliminary round encounter with a 5-2 aggregate score over the East Africans.

A source close to the matter revealed that Kunene was likely to bag another deal from the football mother’s body.

“The current head coach will be handed a new one-year contract before the resumption of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in June.

The EFA Executive Committee has decided to extend his contract together with those of his new assistants Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane and Ernest Mavuso,” the source said.

Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Communications Officer Muzi Radebe sounded diplomatic when reached for comment on the matter.

“This is an administrative matter between the coach and the Executive Committee, which is not yet for public consumption,” he said.

Mavuso and Ntibane are also out of contract following the recent elapse of their two-month short-term contracts.
