UNESWA empowers youth in engineering outreach program

The University of Eswatini’s Faculty of Science & Engineering, Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, is spearheading a transformative outreach program in the Lubombo region, aiming to inspire and empower the next generation of engineers.

The initiative, which commenced on April 8th and will continue until April 12, 2024, seeks to engage high school students through interactive workshops, hands-on activities, and enlightening sessions.

Throughout the week-long program, the department has been visiting various high schools in the region, providing students with firsthand exposure to the dynamic field of electrical and electronic engineering.

These engaging sessions have been designed to showcase real-world applications of engineering concepts, with a specific emphasis on the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).

One of the primary focal points of the outreach program is to introduce students to cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Electronics, which are at the forefront of the 4IR. Through interactive demonstrations and informative discussions.

Students are gaining valuable insights into the transformative potential of these technologies in shaping our future.

UNESWA expressed that the program is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in engineering by highlighting the importance of gender representation.

Special attention is given to encouraging girls to pursue careers in engineering, aiming to break down gender stereotypes and inspire young women to explore opportunities in STEM fields.

Hands-on activities allow students to delve into electronic circuits, AI applications, and the Internet of Things (IoT), fostering a spirit of curiosity and innovation.

By providing experiential learning opportunities, the program aims to cultivate critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities among participants, essential qualities for future engineers.
