Government to make over E20 000 from DD’s

As it is the norm every new Monday, drunken drivers are rounded up in court to face their weekend crimes. Yesterday was no exception.

Over 10 drunken drivers appeared in front of Magistrate Chazile Thwala, mitigating their cases, denouncing alcoholic behavior, and lying through their teeth about touching the bottle ever again.

This behavior by emaSwati will see the Government through the court revenue cash in over E20 000 for the Monday cases alone.

This is because, of the over 10 drunken drivers that appeared before court, each paid a fine ranging from E1500 to E2000. The lowest was E500 and was given to two accused persons.

The alcohol content also ranged from 0.40ml to 0.66ml the highest one being 0.78ml.

For example, Sipho Dladla was fined E2000 for driving under the influence of alcohol on May 4, 2024.

His alcohol content was 0.66ml. While Cebo Dlamini was fined E1500 or 10 months in prison for drunken driving his alcohol content read 0.48ml.
