On a momentous occasion marked by dedication and commitment to public safety, His Majesty King Mswati III addressed a gathering of firefighters during the National Fire Day celebrations held in Matsapha.
With 110 recruits officially passing out, the King emphasized the critical role that firefighters play alongside other security forces in safeguarding lives and property.
In his address, King Mswati III encouraged the new firefighters, stating, “You have the same mandate just like the other security forces. You must save lives, property, and our forestry.”
This statement underscores the integral part that the fire department plays in the national security framework.

The King also highlighted the government’s concerted efforts to bolster the firefighting department by providing essential equipment, upskilling personnel, and enhancing human resources.
He urged the recruits to work collaboratively with other security forces to ensure a comprehensive response to emergencies.
“We commend the cooperation where we have seen police working together with the fire teams during accidents and other incidents,” he added.
During the ceremony, His Majesty took the opportunity to administer the oath of office to the new recruits, charging them to uphold their commitments throughout their careers.
“Respect will make you prosper in your career,” he emphasized, urging the young firefighters to continuously educate and refine their skills in their chosen profession.
In an appeal to the citizens of Eswatini, King Mswati called for responsible behaviour regarding land and forestry management, highlighting the dangers posed by wildfires, which can lead to devastating consequences for families and communities.
“It all starts with one small reckless act, which may leave an entire family, community, company, and even the country suffering irreparable loss,” he warned.
The King also acknowledged the pressing impact of climate change and the role that wildfires play in exacerbating this global issue.
He urged the public to take proactive measures to prevent wildfires and emphasized that collective acts of responsibility would support the firefighting department’s efforts in safeguarding the nation’s environment and resources.
Culminating his address, King Mswati expressed his optimism for the future, noting the impressive displays and drills demonstrated by the fire recruits on their inaugural day. “We do look forward to the growth and improvement of your skills in the coming years,” he concluded.
The National Fire Day event served as a platform to recognize the vital work performed by firefighters and the critical need for community engagement in combating wildfire risks.
With the King’s encouragement and the recruits’ commitment, Eswatini stands poised to strengthen its firefighting capabilities and enhance safety across the nation.

“As climate change intensifies, the link between wildfires and environmental degradation has become quite evident.
The speaker pointed out that “the problems we see in the world of climate change are a direct or indirect consequence of wild and uncontrollable fires devastating large areas in some parts of the globe.”
This affirmation served as a stark reminder of the global implications of local actions and the importance of collaborative efforts in safeguarding the environment.
In his address the King urged citizens to make conscious choices to prevent wildfires, thereby supporting the fire department in their ongoing battle against such disasters.
“Your continued acts of responsibility will help our fire department and the country to make our fight against fires attainable,” HMK highlighted.
The National Fire Day also celebrated the hard work and dedication of the new fire recruits, whose training culminated in impressive displays and drills.
“It has been a great moment to witness the wonderful displays and drills by the fire recruits on your inaugural day.
We do look forward to the growth and improvement of your skills and displays in the coming years,” the King remarked, expressing excitement for the contributions these recruits will make to the fire service and their communities.
