THE roads of Eswatini witnessed a devastating day on October 18, 2024, as two fatal accidents occurred within hours of each other, resulting in the loss of two lives and leaving several others injured.
The first incident took place around 4 PM along the Mbabane/Manzini Public Road near Gold Blood.
According to local authorities, a Mazda Demio Sedan driven by a 31-year-old man from Fairview lost control, veering off the roadway and tumbling into a cliff.

Emergency services were quick to respond, transporting the driver to the Mbabane Government Hospital. Sadly, despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead upon arrival due to serious injuries sustained in the crash.
The second accident occurred just over an hour later at around 5:10 PM on MR 18 Public Road in Malkerns.
A Toyota Quantum, driven by a 49-year-old man from kaKhoza, lost control after encountering fallen timber from a combination truck.
The vehicle veered off the road and fell into a donga. There were seven passengers on board at the time of the accident.
A 63-year-old man from Lushikishini suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Mankayane Government Hospital where he was also pronounced dead upon arrival.

One passenger from the Quantum was admitted for further treatment, while the others received care and were discharged shortly thereafter.
Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, the Chief Police Information and Communication Officer confirmed the details of both incidents and extended condolences to the families affected by this tragic day on the roads.
The REPS urged drivers to exercise increased caution, especially as the rainy season approaches, to avoid further tragedies.
