The Prime Minister Russell Dlamini has assured the Nation that the government will tackle head on unplanned settlements.
This was revealed by the Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Thuli Dladla who was speaking on behalf of the Prime Minister during the first ever Urban Forum in the country held at Ezulwini Royal Villas on Monday.
The theme of this forum, ‘Sustainable Urbanisation in Eswatini: Working Towards Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, New Urban Agenda, and Agenda 2063’
The PM through Dladla said, the lack of infrastructure, unplanned settlements, and the pressures on housing and services are issues they must tackle head-on.

He further said, urbanisation is a global phenomenon that shapes societies, economies, and environments.
The PM noted that in Eswatini, approximately 25% of the population now resides in urban areas, and this percentage continues to grow.
This he said presents them with unique opportunities, but also challenges that require urgent attention.
“Our presence here today reflects the importance we place on sustainable urbanisation as a key driver of Eswatini’s future.
The issues we discuss will not only shape our cities but will directly impact the lives of our people, including those in rural and peri-urban areas,” he explained.
The PM said the forum will help them define the Nation’s position on sustainable urban development, which will be communicated at global platforms such as the World Urban Forum.
“It is our opportunity to share Eswatini’s vision and priorities with the world and to ensure that we play our part in achieving sustainable development on a global scale,” said the PM.
The Prime Minister further endorsed the youth and said they were the heartbeat of the development the country is looking for.

“The youth are at the heart of building a better urban future. Eswatini’s young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are the leaders of today.
Their involvement in local action, particularly in addressing the climate crisis, is critical to the success of our urban agenda,” said the PM.
Dlamini further called upon all stakeholders Government, private sector, civil society, and development partners to commit to building a more sustainable and resilient Eswatini.
“Let us use this platform to shape a collective vision for our cities and towns, ensuring that they are inclusive, liveable, and sustainable for generations to come,’’ said the PM.
