December is finally here, and with it comes the much-anticipated festive season. For many micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Eswatini, this is a time of great opportunity as customers flock to markets and shops, eager to spend their hard-earned money on gifts, celebrations, and essentials for the season.
The Eswatini Daily News spoke to three entrepreneurs who shared their expectations for the month and the opportunities it brings for their businesses.
Happy Simelane, a clothing vendor at the bustling Manzini Bus Rank, expressed excitement about the December rush. “This is the month we prepare for all year,” she said.

“People want to look good during the holidays, and sales always increase around this time. I have stocked up on the latest fashion items, including trendy dresses, shirts, and kids’ wear.
I expect my revenue to triple compared to other months.” Happy added that she also plans to extend her hours of operation to cater to late-night shoppers.
Another optimistic entrepreneur, Themba Dlamini, a street food vendor in Matsapha, is anticipating a spike in sales.
“With workers receiving bonuses and customers traveling, December is always a great month for us,” he shared.
Themba, who is well-known for his delicious grilled chicken and traditional dishes, has added festive specials to his menu to attract more customers.
“I am hiring an extra helper this month to handle the expected increase in demand,” he added confidently.
On the other hand, Sipho Vilakati, who runs a small gift shop in Mbabane, is equally prepared for a busy season. “Gift-giving is a big part of Christmas celebrations,” he noted.
