WFP COMMITS TO HELPING ESWATINI ATTAIN FOOD SECURITY

The World Food Programme (WFP) has reiterated its commitment to help Eswatini realize its vision of attaining food security.

New WFP Regional Director for Southern Africa Eric Perdison made this commitment when he met Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini privately at Cabinet offices.

WFP Eswatini Head of Office Deepak Shah was also part of the meeting which according to the Government website,

focused on the significance of bolstering institutional capacities for sustainable development through agriculture value chains, transformational “mega” projects and social protection systems.

“What was also discussed were the issues around disaster risk management, early warning systems and strategic grain reserves, amongst others, reaffirming the mutual commitment by both parties to ensure food security in the Kingdom of Eswatini,” said an informed source at Cabinet.

Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini yesterday received new World Food Program (WFP) Regional Director for
Southern Africa, Mr Eric Perdison at the Private and Cabinet Office. Also present at the meeting was WFP Eswatini Head
of Office, Mr Deepak Shah.

In September, the Prime Minister was an honourable guest at the Agriculture Business and Investment Forum-Indaba which took place at the George Hotel in Manzini.

The event was aimed at fostering collaboration and innovation within the agri-food sector, addressing the pressing challenges and opportunities in agriculture.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister gave insight and strategies that can drive transformation and investment in the agricultural landscape.

The Premier recently told Parliament during the debate of the 2023 to 2028 Government Policy statement that the Ministry of Agriculture had given itself two years to attain food security.
