By Lwazi Dlamini

The Eswatini Water and Agricultural Development Enterprise is elated after one of its managed dams, Lubovane reached 100 per cent capacity – and is now overspilling.

Posting on their social media platforms, EWADE said the remarkable recovery of the Lubovane dam is worth celebrating.

“We are thrilled to announce that the EWADE–managed Lubovane Dam has reached 100% capacity and is now overspilling!

This marks a remarkable recovery from the critically low levels of November and December 2024, which had placed the LUSIP I and LUSIP II sugarcane smallholders at risk as their crops endured the intense heat and water shortages,” part of the statement reads.

The statement states that this will help ensure a reliable water supply to sustain the sugarcane fields and safeguard livelihoods.

“Thanks to the recent heavy rains experienced across the country, the reservoir is now full, ensuring a reliable water supply to sustain the sugarcane fields and safeguard livelihoods.

LUBOVANE OVERFLOWING

This milestone is a reflection of EWADE’s dedicated management and commitment to spearheading transformative agricultural projects like LUSIP I and II, which continue to empower our smallholder farmers and drive sustainable development.

Let’s celebrate this incredible blessing and the efforts behind it!” the statement reads in part.

The latest development dovetails with EWADE Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Samson Sithole’s New Year message that the organization will carry into 2025 the energy, resilience and lessons from extraordinary 2024.

“The past year marked a significant year of progress and achievements across our strategic initiatives.
