The Municipal Council of Mbabane has sustained its social support programmes, providing two meals daily to an average of over 1100 children across nine social centres within the municipality during the reporting period.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Municipal Council of Mbabane, Gciniwe Fakudze, disclosed this while delivering a presentation on the Council’s performance report.
Fakudze said Council has continued to prioritise poverty reduction interventions as part of its social services mandate.
She said the feeding programme implemented across the nine social centres has ensured that vulnerable children receive consistent nutritional support throughout the year.
She said Council also recorded progress in education support. With external funding, Council assisted 15 high school students who could not afford tuition fees to be enrolled in school.

On Gender-Based Violence prevention, Fakudze said Council conducted 13 GBV awareness and sensitisation campaigns in communities, workplaces and tertiary institutions.
She said the campaigns were aimed at raising awareness, promoting prevention and encouraging reporting of GBV cases.
Fakudze further reported that Council implemented literacy and youth development programmes through Spelling Bee and Public Speaking competitions for primary and high schools.
She said the competitions promoted literacy, public speaking, leadership development, critical thinking and civic participation among learners while addressing important social themes affecting young people.
She said Council also hosted a Social Inclusion Day for children with disabilities as part of efforts to promote inclusivity.
