Dr Hilary Okello returns to Eswatini for comedy night

Uganda’s celebrated stand-up comedian Dr Hilary Okello is set to return to the Kingdom of Eswatini on January 29, 2027,
Yet another memorable night of African comedy is set for Sibane Sami Hotel, featuring Eswatini’s very own Dr Shakes and bringing together two comedians from different parts of the continent for an evening of humour, storytelling, and cultural exchange. Early bird tickets are E150, while tickets purchased at the door cost E200.
Dr Shakes said sharing the stage with an internationally recognised comedian such as Dr Hilary Okello presented an opportunity to showcase Eswatini’s comedy talent while strengthening connections within Africa’s entertainment industry.
He noted that the collaboration went beyond entertainment, describing it as an opportunity for comedians from different backgrounds to share their experiences, cultures and perspectives through humour. According to Dr Shakes, the growing relationship between comedians across the continent helped create platforms that let African performers learn from one another while exposing their work to different audiences.
He said local comedians also had an important role to play in ensuring that Eswatini became part of the wider African comedy circuit.
Dr Shakes, known for his observational humour, Swati cultural references and relatable storytelling, has been among the personalities contributing to the development of the local stand-up comedy scene.
Dr Hilary Okello’s return comes after his previous visit to Eswatini on May 28, 2026, when he performed at the Mbabane Theatre Club under the show Jokes From Far Away. His performance introduced local comedy enthusiasts to his distinctive Ugandan humour and storytelling style. The upcoming show is expected to build on that connection with Eswatini audiences while introducing his comedy to an even wider audience.
