Israel’s Gaza Assault Leaves 61 Dead as UN Chief Condemns ‘Deliberate’ Famine

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has denounced the worsening famine in Gaza, calling it “the result of deliberate decisions that defy basic humanity.”

Israeli forces continue their assault on Gaza City, flattening entire neighborhoods in what observers describe as an effort to drive residents out. Civil defence authorities report that at least 1,500 homes have been destroyed in the latest wave of strikes.

According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, four people have died of starvation in the past 24 hours. Medical sources also confirmed that at least 61 people were killed in Israeli attacks on the enclave today alone.

Since the war began, Israel’s bombardment has killed at least 62,966 Palestinians and injured more than 159,000, health officials say. The conflict erupted following the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led assault on Israel, in which 1,139 people were killed and over 200 taken captive.
