Spring Has Sprung in Eswatini

The first Sunday of September has always carried a subtle magic for the Kingdom of Eswatini. The crisp bite of winter’s breath slowly loosens its grip, the icy mornings soften, and across the valleys, ridges, and bustling townships, a quiet but profound transformation begins to unfold.

Spring has sprung, and with it comes a season of renewal, joy, and endless opportunities to rediscover the beauty of life in the kingdom.

Unlike summer, with its sometimes-overwhelming heat, or winter with its biting cold, spring in Eswatini is a gentle invitation to balance. It is neither too hot nor too cold.

It is the Goldilocks of seasons, perfectly poised to remind liSwati that life was meant to be lived outdoors, under skies so blue they almost look painted, and among hillsides so green they could make a painter jealous.

When we say, “spring has sprung,” we are not only describing weather patterns or calendar shifts. We are announcing a mood, a collective sigh of relief, a season of fresh beginnings. For the people of Eswatini, spring is deeply symbolic.

It is the season of renewal. After months of dry, brown landscapes and chilly winds, spring is like the kingdom taking a deep, refreshing breath.

Grass returns, trees stretch their branches toward the sun, and flowers bloom as if on cue. It’s nature’s reminder that life can always start afresh.

Spring is a time of cultural rhythm. Eswatini’s cultural calendar is beautifully woven with seasons. Spring often coincides with preparations for major cultural ceremonies.

Communities gather, not only to celebrate but also to reconnect with the land that sustains them. It is also a period of balance. In a world that often feels rushed and overwhelming, spring brings balance.

Days grow longer, nights grow warmer, and life slows down just enough for people to pause and appreciate the little things, the morning bird songs, the scent of wildflowers, the gentle hum of bees.

In essence, spring is both a physical season and a spiritual nudge. It whispers: “Breathe again. Dream again. Begin again.”
