Pirates back at training after accident
By Benjamin Nyirenda
In what will come as a welcome sight to Orlando Pirates supporters, head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou was seen at the club’s training session on Tuesday morning, just days before the Buccaneers’ eagerly anticipated MTN8 final against Stellenbosch FC.
Ouaddou, who has been recovering after being involved in a serious road traffic incident last week, was spotted with his right arm in a cast as he took charge of proceedings at the Rand Stadium session.
The incident occurred on the R21 highway as the team returned from Gqeberha following their 3-0 victory over Chippa United in their last game before the FIFA international break.
The coach appeared engaged with the players throughout, giving instructions as the team continued their build-up for Saturday’s showdown in Mbombela.
While Pirates are set to hold an official media briefing at Rand Stadium this afternoon, Ouaddou was seen present as the team put the finishing touches on their preparations.
At this stage, it looks like the coach might be available to take charge of the side from the bench in Saturday’s final at Mbombela Stadium.
The club is expected to provide full clarity later today regarding the conditions of Ouaddou and the affected staff members.
Regardless of his role, Ouaddou’s presence at training has already sparked optimism among the Buccaneers faithful, who will be hoping the team can use that extra boost of motivation as they aim to defend their MTN8 crown against a determined Stellenbosch FC side.
