According to Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, the Chief Police Information and Communication Officer, the incident occurred around 11:30pm when officers noticed a white Toyota sedan parked suspiciously in the area. Upon investigation, law enforcement discovered the bush bark carcass inside the vehicle, leading to the immediate arrest of the two suspects.

“This arrest underscores our ongoing commitment to combat wildlife crime and illegal possession of animal parts,” Senior Superintendent Vilakati stated.
“We are dedicated to protecting our environment and will take stringent action against those who violate our laws.”

Authorities have not disclosed whether the bush bark was from a protected species, but the possession of such items without appropriate documentation can carry severe penalties under Eswatini’s conservation laws.

The two suspects are currently in police custody and expected to face charges in court shortly.
The police are urging the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to wildlife trafficking.

Residents are reminded that the protection of natural resources is a collective responsibility and that cooperation with law enforcement is crucial to preserving the environment for future generations.

It should be noted that as investigations continue, local conservation groups have expressed their support for the police’s efforts in tackling wildlife crime, emphasizing the need for increased awareness and education on the importance of biodiversity conservation.
