The long-awaited TV programme that allows abandoned children and parents to locate their guardians has arrived.

On February 15, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Thuli Dladla announced that such a programme was underway.

It is meant to call to order those who abandoned their children at parents, especially in the rural areas.

On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, Dladla said a technical team is in place to kickstart the programme which will be aired weekly on Eswatini TV.

This was during a donation of two vehicles worth E1.1 million by the Taiwan embassy to the office towards the initiative. These are a quantum and a bakkie.

The DPM noted the support availed by the embassy of Taiwan which she said proves alignment with the efforts initiated by the Eswatini Government and will ensure that the desired outputs are attained.

“Through the family reunification project, we hope to create a society where families are empowered, children are nurtured, and every citizen can reach their full potential.

This is a collective effort, one that requires the support of the government, civil society, religious and traditional organisations, including every individual in the respective communities,” she said.

Dladla clarified that the TV show seeks to reconnect these parties peacefully, necessitated by reconciliation and family dialogue.

This presents an opportunity for those seeking to be assisted where possible. In participating in the programme individuals will be protected of their identities and dignity.

“We, therefore, urge all emaSwati to utilise this opportunity for the benefits of the family union and the stability it seeks to achieve.

All emaSwati in all the regions are requested to cooperate with the team that will carry out this important programme,” she said.

Taiwan Ambassador Jeremy Liang said they aim to join hands with the country in caring for impoverished and vulnerable groups.

This initiative aligns with Eswatini’s efforts to achieve the United Nations SDG 3, which is ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages.

It also represents a step towards realising His Majesty’s vision of transforming Eswatini into a first-world nation.

“It is our firm belief that provisions are made for the aged till their death, the adults are given proper employments, and all children are well supported.

Recognising this, when the DPM’s office proposed the vehicle procurement project, the Taiwan government was swift and unwavering in its support,” said Ambassador Liang.
