Heavy Rains Damaging Roads and Causing Floods

On going heavy rains in Eswatini are damaging roads and causing floods in several parts of the country. The storm has destroyed another part of the MR1 highway near Mnyokane. Last week a section of the MR1 (Motshane-Matsamo) road near Nkomazi River Bridge was damaged by heavy rains and Government immediately commissioned rehabilitation works which are ongoing. The Ministry of Public Works has further engaged a contractor for rehabilitation works on a road failure near Maguga, along the MR32 road.

The Ministry of Natural Resources & Energy has issued a public warning on rising river levels in the country. The Ministry has urged the public not to cross low level bridges which are submerged by raging waters & not to cross or swim in these flooded rivers.

The following rivers are experiencing rising water levels: Mkhondvo, Usuthu (Bhunya to Siphofaneni & Big Bend), Mbuluzi (Mpisi to Mlawula), Ngwavuma at Lubulini, Lusushwana from Ezulwini to Matsapha and Mlumati up to Matsamo as well as the Komati from Maguga to Mananga.
