The 2027 conference is expected to convene parliamentarians, policymakers, community leaders and stakeholders from across the continent.

According to information released, the meeting will provide an opportunity for discussions on strengthening families, promoting social cohesion and advancing policies that reflect African perspectives.

The hosting of the conference highlights Eswatini’s continued role in promoting dialogue on issues of cultural heritage, social development and the importance of family structures within African societies.

The Kingdom has long emphasised preserving cultural traditions and values. Family and community support systems form an important part of Eswatini’s social fabric, officials noted in relation to the hosting announcement.

The conference is expected to attract participants from across the continent. Delegates are expected to share experiences, discuss challenges facing families and explore strategies aimed at strengthening communities.

Discussions at previous gatherings focused on specific thematic areas. These included family empowerment, parental responsibility, education, social protection and the role of traditional values in national development.

Organisers stated that the upcoming Eswatini edition will build on those themes.

Eswatini as host is expected to facilitate engagement among African leaders and stakeholders.

The objective, according to the information provided, is to create a platform for the exchange of ideas and cooperation towards strengthening communities across the continent.

The upcoming event will also provide Eswatini with an opportunity to showcase its culture and hospitality. Officials said the Kingdom will contribute to continental conversations on policies that affect African families.

The inter-parliamentary format is designed to bring together legislators from different African countries.

The structure allows for direct engagement between lawmakers and other stakeholders on legislation and policy matters related to the family.

Previous host countries Uganda and Ghana used the conference to address matters related to social protection, education and the role of institutions in supporting families.

Delegates at those meetings considered how policies could be aligned with cultural and community realities in different African contexts.

For Eswatini, the hosting role places the Kingdom at the centre of a continental policy discussion.

The conference is expected to provide a forum where African parliamentarians can compare approaches to family-related legislation and social programs.

Government has not yet announced specific dates or the venue for the 2027 conference.

Preparations are expected to involve relevant government ministries as well as stakeholders in hospitality, tourism and civil society to support the hosting arrangements.

The conference is also expected to reinforce cooperation between parliaments and community structures.

By including community leaders alongside policymakers, the meeting seeks to link policy discussions at parliamentary level with implementation at community level.

Key areas anticipated for discussion include measures to strengthen family units, initiatives to promote social cohesion, and approaches to policy development that take into account African cultural contexts.

The agenda is expected to reflect outcomes and recommendations from the Uganda and Ghana editions.

The African Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family Values and Sovereignty is convened periodically to allow African lawmakers and stakeholders to deliberate on social issues affecting the continent.
