Digital skills and opportunities in the technology sector took centre stage on the fifth day of the Digital Skills Workshop Series hosted by the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology at the Mavuso Trade Centre.
The ministry said the workshops, held at Pavilion 5, were designed to expose visitors to practical digital skills and career opportunities that can enable them to participate more meaningfully in Eswatini’s growing digital economy.
The day featured sessions on careers in the digital economy, coding and software development, as well as content creation and digital marketing. Speaking on careers in the digital economy, University of Eswatini (UNESWA) Computer Science lecturer Lucky Sithole explored different pathways available to young people and other aspiring professionals seeking to build careers in the technology sector.
Sithole’s session highlighted the expanding opportunities created by digital transformation and the need for individuals to equip themselves with relevant skills to take advantage of these opportunities. Coding and software development were also featured, with RSTP lecturer Patrick Lokotfwako taking participants through opportunities in coding and software development through Coders Eswatini and RSTP.
The session provided visitors with practical insights into programming and the growing demand for software development skills as businesses and institutions increasingly adopt digital technologies. Content creation and digital marketing formed another key part of the programme, with Philani Mpanza demonstrating how digital platforms can be used to create content, build audiences and support economic opportunities.
The Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology said the sessions were intended to move beyond theory by giving participants opportunities to learn, practise and develop skills that are increasingly relevant in the modern economy.
Through the sessions, visitors were introduced to different ways in which digital skills can translate into career and business opportunities, ranging from technology and software development to online marketing and content production.
The ministry said the practical nature of the workshops was aimed at helping participants better understand the opportunities available within the digital economy and how they could position themselves to benefit from Eswatini’s digital transformation.
