Funeral arrangements confirmed for Chief Justice Maphalala

The Government of Eswatini has confirmed the funeral arrangements for the late Chief Justice Moses Cuthbert Bhekie Maphalala, who will be accorded a State Funeral.

A State Memorial Service will be held tomorrow, Friday, September 18, 2026, at Zakhele Free Evangelical Assemblies Church (New Auditorium) in Manzini.

The memorial service will commence at 11:00 am and is expected to provide an opportunity for the Nation to pay tribute to the late Chief Justice and honour his contribution to the administration of justice.

The State Funeral will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Maphalala’s home in Jerusalem KuLawuba, Shiselweni Region.

According to the Government notice, the funeral will begin at 6:00 am, following a night vigil service.

The Government has also announced that a Condolence Book has been opened at the High Court, where members of the public can sign and record messages of sympathy and support for the Maphalala family.

In announcing the arrangements, Government extended its condolences to the Maphalala family and invited the Nation to join in paying tribute to the late Chief Justice for his service to the administration of justice.

“His commitment and dedication to justice will be remembered with honour,” Government stated.

aphalala served as Chief Justice before his death, with his passing prompting Government to accord him a State Funeral in recognition of his service.
