Nsingizini Hotspurs have joined the football fraternity in mourning Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife Lucy ‘Lulu’ Muteke.
Chivayo, the sponsor Zimbabwean side Scottland Football Club, and his wife were among six people killed in a helicopter crash in Marondera, Zimbabwe on Tuesday, September 30. Authorities have confirmed there were no survivors.
In a condolence statement released last night, the back-to-back MTN Premier League champions extended their deepest condolences to Scottland FC, the Zimbabwean football family, the bereaved families, and the entire MC family.
“Nsingizini Hotspurs FC extends our deepest and heartfelt condolences to Scottland Football Club, Zimbabwean football family, the bereaved families, friends, colleagues, and the entire IMC family following the tragic passing of Sir Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy ‘Lulu’ Muteke,” the club stated.
“Our hearts go out to everyone affected during this incredibly difficult and painful time. We stand with you in grief and share in your sorrow,” the statement reads in part.

The flamboyant businessman, popularly known as Sir Wicknell, was one of Zimbabwe’s most prominent football benefactors and had donated US$250,000 to Highlanders FC just hours before the crash.
Chivayo is also known for his close ties with Eswatini football, having previously been linked with sponsorship support in the local game.
Nsingizini said their thoughts and prayers are with all those grieving.
“May their souls rest in eternal peace,” the club concluded.
Kwakhe Thwala, Scottland FC have also mourned the passing of the astute businessman.
