Multichoice withdraws Sjava’s nominations for the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards

Sjava’s nominations for the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards (DMVCA) have been withdrawn by Multichoice.

The singer received two nominations for Favourite Song of the Year and Favourite Music Artist or Group categories and was set to perform at the ceremony on Saturday, 14 March.

His withdrawal from the awards come after the Cape Town Jazz Festival removed him from the line-up on Tuesday due to ‘serious allegations’ against him.

Reggy Moalusi, Executive Head of Corporate Affairs at MultiChoice South Africa said in a statement: “The DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards has decided to withdraw the nomination of local artist Jabulani Hadebe popularly known as Sjava, from this year’s awards.

“This as a result of an ongoing investigation into the local performer by the authorities. The decision to remove Sjava’s eligibility, including cancelling his performance at the awards is not one that has been made lightly, but we believe is in the best interest of all parties concerned.”

On Wednesday, Sjava released a statement on Twitter in which he claims he did not rape Lady Zamar and provided a timeline of the actions he has taken since the allegations first became public in October 2019.
