Eswatini received its first batch of 32 000 Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines in late March. 12 000 came through the COVAX facility and 20,000 through a donation from the Indian Government. Eswatini recently received 302 400 doses of Johnson and Johnson vaccine from the United States through the COVAX Facility.
The Minister of Health Senator Lizzy Nkosi revealed that Eswatini is targeting to vaccinate about 30% of the country’s population when she announced the roll out of a nationwide vaccination program that started on Monday 2 August 2021.
According to the statement issued by the Prime Minister Cleopas Dlamini on the 13th August 2021, he said that “as of yesterday, 85115 are fully vaccinated.”
It looks like Eswatini is on track to reach its target. Despite starting the vaccination late, the vaccine rate per 100 people is at par with countries that started vaccinating their population early. With more vaccines expected, the, Kingdom will most likely vaccinate 50% of the population before the end of the year.
