The Senate Health Portfolio Committee reported to Senate yesterday the outcome of their tour of the Luke Commission (TLC) facility following negative media reports. The Committee reported that the criticism and accusations of poor service and ill treatment of patients at TLC were found to be largely false and unfounded. To the contrary they found that the TLC has invested a lot in upgrading their facility to accommodate COVID-19 patients who are usually transferred to them by other health facilities when it is too late to save the life of the patient. According to their policy they do not turn back a patient. They do all they can to provide the best medical care available.
Senate expressed their appreciation to TLC and implored emaSwati do desist from launching scathing attacks against TLC and other businesses with the intention of unfairly damaging their reputation.
Senate made an example of a food outlet that eventually closed because of a false story that circulated in the country. Senators said the service provided by TLC is very important because it benefits the nation and it would be catastrophic should such an entity decide to close because of the constant unwarranted attacks.
Great move by Senate to investigate these allegations and bring back a report. It is clear that the TLC is another victim of the trending “cancel culture” and the “woke” politics which is a form of harassment intended to silence and frustrate anyone who is seen to be in support of Government.
Eswatini let’s give credit where credit is due and appreciate TLC for their voluntary contribution to save the lives of Emaswati. Not to say their facility is perfect and fault free. In our investigation we have not come access any that is perfect in the whole world. There is not a single country in the world that has not set up emergency and field hospitals in response to the pandemic. There is therefore no justification for criticizing TLC for doing the same. By all standards, TLC is doing a great job.
Keep up the good work TLC.
Who is The Luke Commission

TLC provides outpatient, inpatient, surgical, emergency, and critical care at the ever-expanding Miracle Campus in central Eswatini. Starting each day from the Miracle Campus, the TLC team delivers outpatient care through more than 100 mobile hospital outreaches each year across Eswatini.
Founded in 2005 by Dr. Harry and Echo (PAC) VanderWal, TLC has grown to a staff of more than 500 (98% Emaswati). TLC works with a diversified group of partners, including the Eswatini Ministry of Health and US governmental organizations, to innovate and implement best practices for comprehensive healthcare.
