Transport Association To Engage Its Workers Today

Eswatini Daily News
14 October 2021

The transport system came to a standstill yesterday as transport workers downed tools to join the protest. A lot of passengers were left stranded with no transport in and out of the main cities in the country. Vehicles seen ferrying passengers were pelted with stones and bottles. Passengers in Matsapha were dragged out of a Kombi and assaulted by a violent group of protestors. The driver was also not spared.

The situation intensified in Manzini after a Kombi operator was shot, allegedly by a police officer. Operators reconvened threatening to march to his home to burn his house. Unverified reports say the home of the police officer and his Mini bus was burnt to ashes by protestors in revenge.

The transport association and transport owners are meeting with all transport workers this morning to map the way forward.
