Two Swazi citizens are reported to have fallen victim and scammed of an estimated E140 000 through the World Health Organization scam circulating on social media platforms.

Nicholas Jele Senior Superintendent (Fraud Awareness) of Royal Eswatini Police confirmed the matter. Jele mentioned that they are working on two cases of the scam where Swazi citizens fell victim and scammed money estimated to E140 000.

There are messages circulating on social media platforms about funding from the World Health Organization where the public is instructed to apply electronically for the funding in dollars with a given link. There are numerous questions asked which lead to the disclosure of banking details and some money requested upfront to clear your fund before receiving. Jele warned the public that there is no such funding available in Eswatini. He said such is a scam targeted to Eswatini citizens. “ As we are approaching the festive season we will see a number of this scams, if you happen to come across such, block it immediately”.

Jele assured the nation that as a department they are working on this matter and they have traceable lead towards the arrest of the scammers.
