The Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council has achieved a number of milestones in sports and developments for the year 2021, despite the challenges and difficulties caused by the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic.
Public Relations Officer of Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council Dumisani Ntiwane said as a council they were able to achieve their goals in the sports industry. They were able to facilitate the establishment of the National Sports Commissions for the first time in Eswatini. The Commission will improve disability in sports and ensure empowerment of women in sports, amongst other things.
In the year of 2021 Eswatini teams were able to come home with 10 medals from the Region 5 games in Lesotho in different sport activities.
Ntiwane said as a council they were also able to establish the Paralympic Committee of Eswatini which was then accepted and Eswatini is now a member of the International Paralympic Committee. The Sports Council was also successful in establishing the Athletic Commission which is headed by Swazi Bolt Matsenjwa.
“As a Council, in the year 2022 we are looking to continue with the program development and this year’s main program is the National Sports Awards. We will also continue with other programs like Shukuma Eswatini, which has been running for years. Shukuma Eswatini is aimed to start before the end of February 2021”, stated Ntiwane.
He also urged all Sports Associations to continue with the running of their programs which helps the youth to participate in sports.
