Yesterday the UN General Assembly voted to reprimand Russia for invading Ukraine and called upon Moscow to withdraw its military forces. The resolution was supported by 141 of the assembly’s 193 members, 5 voted against the resolution and 35 abstained. South Africa, Uganda, Mozambique and Namibia are some of the countries that abstained.
The resolution was passed in an emergency session called by the United Nations Security Council. The last time the U.N. called an emergency session was in 1982.
Russia on the other hand says its actions in Ukraine are a “special operation” that is not designed to occupy the territory but to destroy its neighbour’s military capabilities and capture what it regards as dangerous nationalists.
