MANZINI: Protestors held placards saying “END RAPE CULTURE AND SEXUAL HARASSMENT!!” “PERPETRATORS BELONG IN JAIL!!” “INYANDZALEYO!!” “WOMEN ARE NOT SEX OBJECTS!!”

A small group of individuals yesterday delivered a petition to the management of a supermarket in Manzini to express the grievances of two female employees who allege that two managers sexually harassed them at a Supermarket in Manzini. The victims complained that they were suspended after reporting the abuse instead of hearing their case. It was not established during the picket whether or not the complainants reported the matter to the police for investigation. Studies show that the main reason people do not speak up about harassment in the workplace is fear of retaliation.

Members of the Swaziland Action Group Against Abuse (SWAGGA) and other groups joined the two ladies in solidarity to stage a protest yesterday morning. The SODV act 2018 5(1) states that a person unlawfully commits a sexual violation against another person, without the consent of the other person commits the act of sexual assault.
