Transport will operate on December 13 – DPM

Deputy Prime Minister Themba Masuku has criticised those who are planning to disrupt public transport services on December 13.

During a press conference held on Tuesday afternoon, the DPM said the planned disruption of public transport on December 13 was aimed at destroying the lives and the livelihoods of emaSwati by depriving them of all the services needed in the country in various critical sectors.

“This evil threat is planned by irresponsible individuals and pressure groups who enjoy and take pleasure in seeing people suffer while they benefit immensely from resources provided by their inconsiderate handlers,” Masuku said.

He went on to say: “The people who want or are planning to disrupt transport have only one objective, that is to destroy the lives and the livelihoods of emaSwati by depriving them of all the services that are needed in this country in various critical sectors.”

He mentioned that government would continue to discharge its mandate and responsibility to protect the nation from deprivation of their constitutional rights by a few individuals and pressure organisations who harbour dangerous ulterior and selfish motives without any known plan to improve the livelihoods of the people.

The DPM insisted that the transport sector would operate.

“This sector is not a political organisation, but a sector that moves people, goods, and services. The government will stand together with the owners and those who work in this sector.”

On another note, the DPM took the opportunity to reaffirm the State’s continued commitment to the national dialogue, saying this commitment has not changed one bit.

He said national dialogue was the only way or mechanism we have and that we have used in the past to chart a way forward in the political, social and economic development spaces.

“Dialogue cannot be abandoned at any stage. So, the government’s position remains unchanged on the dialogue, it will happen. Contrary to some social media ‘fact distorting’ propaganda outlets, we have never said in our statements that there would be no dialogue,” he said.
