This effectively means that Boxing Day, which falls on Monday December 26, has been shifted to Tuesday, December 27. The minister stated that the decision complied with the Public Holiday Act of 1938, especially Section 2 which provides that if any such day falls on a Sunday, the following Monday shall be observed as a public holiday.
Also, the Act provides that, “If Boxing Day falls on a Monday, the following Tuesday shall be observed as a public holiday”.
The press statement highlighted that notably, the day appointed under the Act as a public holiday is concerned to be a non-business day.
