South African award-winning star Sho Madjozi will perform on the MTN Bushfire stage.

This was revealed on Friday when the MTN Bushfire organisers announced the first of many talented and exciting acts for the 16th edition of MTN Bushfire, in 2023.

The last time Madjozi performed at the MTN Bushfire Festival was in 2019.
Besides Madjozi, the organisers listed Ibeyi and Qibho Intalektual as some of the artists that will join a dozen of others from Africa and around the world on the various festival stages from 26th–28th May 2023.

Rooted in Africa and yet globally inclusive, MTN Bushfire’s line-up has always embraced the eccentric and unearthed the eclectic. Sho Madjozi’s audacious energy and colourful aesthetic make for a powerful stage presence, felt even before her first reverberating bassline drops.

Her energetic music combines Hip Hop hooks with catchy Gqom-rooted melodies, fusing languages, genres and fashions – paying homage to her Tsonga heritage while embellishing it with a global sensibility.

Ibeyi is a French musical duo consisting of twin sisters Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Diaz. The duo sings in English, French, Spanish and Yoruba. In Yoruba, “Ibeyi” means “twins”.

Meanwhile, Eswatini’s own Qibho Intalektual is a mentor, poet, musician, author, social activist and member of the art development initiative Rooted Soulz. Qibho is known for his blend of witty, thought-provoking, and intelligent wordplay.

His unmistakable signature style is deeply embedded in conscious Hip Hop music, reflecting honest social commentary with skilful storytelling. Many more artists will be announced in the new year, but the MTN Bushfire 2023 line-up already promises to exceed expectations!
