By Khulile Thwala

The war on illegal firearms in the Kingdom of Eswatini rages on as the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) apprehended four men in different parts of the country for illegal possession of firearms.

Worth noting is that two of the offenders are South African citizens who were arrested upon entry into the country. These men are yet to be charged as they have not appeared before a magistrate.

According to Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, the increase in the number of illegal firearms in the country was a cause for concern.

“As police, we continue to hail emaSwati who have extended assistance in implicating offenders,” said Vilakati.

She mentioned that the SA men were arrested at Nsalitje near the border crossing while carrying the illegal firearms in Matsapha, two men were also found in possession of the illegal firearms along with five rounds of ammunition.

The police spokesperson also urged the public to continue sharing information about people who engaged in illicit activities and exhibited suspicious behaviour.
