Production to start on May 1 at Gamula Factory

By Ntombi Mhlongo

Following his visit to the Gamula Factory construction site last week, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo has said that he expected production to start on May 1.

The minister, accompanied by officials from the ministry, made a stop at the construction site last Thursday to check on the progress that has been made.

“Judging from the fact that the factory is taking shape, we anticipate that the finish date will be April 30 and production should start on May 1,” he said.

The project was launched in December 2021 and J&E Construction is responsible for construction. The project is worth E77 million and is one of the many which have been implemented by the government to ensure the decentralisation of investments and improve the livelihoods of emaSwati.

The factory shell will be occupied by Textile Company FTM Garments once completed. Besides the Gamula Factory, Minister Khumalo also visited Maseyisini where a factory to be occupied by Jonsson Workwear is being constructed.

Khumalo said he was pleased to note that earthworks and platforms were already underway.
