This comes shortly after Deputy Prime Minister Themba Masuku said the government was concerned about the escalating rate of murders and suicides in the country.
He was speaking when addressing the media at Cabinet Offices last Wednesday. The Acting Prime Minister reported that 88 people have been killed in different incidents across the country over the past three months, an average of 30 a month and that 46 have committed suicide during the same period, an average of 15 a month.
These incidents were confirmed by Deputy Police Information and Communications inspector Nosipho Mnguni. She further said the police also reported that 15 people were arrested after being found to be driving while under the influence of alcohol.
