The Association of Christian Artists in Eswatini (ACAESWA) has described the late gospel star, Mayibongwe Mthinkhulu as a soldier.
Mthimkhulu, a former beauty queen who was married to businessman and football boss and All Nations Church Archbishop Bheki Lukhele, is said to have passed away on Tuesday.
ACAESWA Public Relations Officer Nhlanhla Mathunjwa said that even though nothing official has been communicated to them, they have received the news that the musician passed away on Tuesday.
“She played a big role in the gospel music industry. As you are aware, she served on the Hhohho Regional Committee some years ago. She won various awards. She was one of the most hardworking artists and we are saddened by the news of her passing,” said Mathunjwa.
He mentioned that as an association, they were currently making plans to meet both the Mthimkhulu and Lukhele families and mourn for them. While both families have not yet issued an official comment or statement, the news of her passing has spread like wildfire on social media pages with people expressing their shock.
This morning, residents believed to have come to mourn were seen entering the Mthimkhulu homestead situated at Hhelehhele Kahhamboko in Manzini.
Efforts to get a comment from Archbishop Lukhele were not successful as all his local and South African cellphone numbers were not successful at the time of compiling this report.
