By Khulile Thwala

A Mahlalela family of seven at Vuvulane underwent a traumatic experience when their house was swept away by heavy rains, plunging them into the nearby river.

The family was trapped and had to climb a tree to keep afloat for nearly 10 hours. According to sources privy to information on the ordeal, the family were trapped on the tree since 3 am in the morning after their house, made of wood, was swept into an overflowing river.

Videos of the family’s rescue show police scuba divers retrieving each distraught family member from what appears to be raging waters. The family, which was inclusive of a mother, father, three daughters, a son and a grandchild were all rescued by 10 am today.
