Green Mamba out to reclaim top spot in the league

By Lwazi Dlamini

Treasure-hunting Green Mamba will have a chance to reclaim the MTN league top spot when they cross swords with Tambankulu Callies on Wednesday at Tambankulu Stadium.

The match was postponed over the past weekend due to inclement weather and has now been re-scheduled for Wednesday by the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE). According to the fixture released by the PLE Football Manager, Petros Vilakati, the match is set for a 3 pm kickoff time.

The ‘Correctional Services’, with a win over Callies, would return to pole position, a point above Young Buffaloes, who are currently on top after their 2-1 win over Denver Sundowns on Saturday took them to 33 points.

The Ernest Mavuso-coached side beat Tambankulu Callies 1-0 in the first-round clash on 20 November 2022 when Njabulo Magagula’s 77th-minute goal proved to be the decisive factor at Ka-Langa Technical Centre.

While Green Mamba are on a five-match winning streak which began with a 2-0 win over Moneni Pirates on 17 December 2022 at Mayaluka Stadium, Callies are winless in three games. Their last victory came on January 14 in a 1-0 triumph over Tambuti FC courtesy of Mazwi Sihlongonyane’s 17th-minute goal.

FIRST ROUND RESULTS: 20/11/2022:

KaLanga Technical Centre:
Green Mamba 1 (Njabulo Magagula 77) Tambankulu Callies 0
