The Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (SMVAF) will administer the funeral cover for the elderly.
This was announced by the office of the Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) on Tuesday. Through this cover, relatives of deceased elderly will be able to claim E3 000 to help with funeral costs.
Principal Secretary in the DPM’s office Melusi Masuku said following His Majesty the King’s directive in his Speech from the throne last year, they would now administer the funeral cover through the SMVAF.
He said they reached an understanding with SMVAF as a company that is already administering pay-outs for motor accidents. He added that members of the public could approach the social welfare offices for more details.
It was further announced that the family members were expected to report the death of an active member of the regional social welfare office.
