E40k fine for Mbabane Highlanders after hostage drama

By Lwazi Dlamini

Misbehaving Mbabane Highlanders fans are costing the club an arm and a leg!

Fresh from being fined E70 000 after fans attacked match officials following a controversial goal scored by Manzini Sea Birds striker Sandumuzi Zwane on November 27, 2022, in a 1-2 defeat, the Capital City giants were on Thursday slapped with an E40 000 fine by the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Disciplinary Committee.

The club had faced another E70 000 fine after irate fans held hostage match officials following a controversially disallowed Philane Mkhontfo goal in the goalless draw with Young Buffaloes at Mavuso Sports Centre on February 2.

Highlanders have already been fined another E70 000 for their fans’ un-sportsmanship behaviour following a penalty loss to Moneni Pirates in the inaugural MoMo Cup in October last year.
