Red Cross comes to rescue of 85-year-old woman

An 85-year-old-woman of Luvinjelweni at Nkhaba has received assistance from the Baphalali Eswatini Red Cross Society (BERCS) in the form of a tent after her only one-room house collapsed due to the heavy rains.

This is not the only person who has been assisted by the organisation among the people who have been recently affected by the heavy rains as assessments were conducted by BERCS in all the regions of the country to ascertain the extent of the damage caused by these rains and how they can respond effectively to these situations.

Immediate support of materials like tents was availed to those who lost their houses while the organisation works to source funding to assist address the other challenges brought by the rains to the families and communities.

“Red Cross as a humanitarian organisation is already on the ground responding to the situation of heavy rains. We are currently conducting assessments to ascertain the type of aid we will provide to those affected. Worth noting is that as we work collaboratively with other stakeholders, we will be gathering data and mapping a way forward on how we best respond to the situation as we collaborate,” said BERCS Public Relations Officer Nontobeko Mbuyane.
