The Government has come to the rescue of motorists and residents of Maphiveni by creating a deviation of the road failure which occurred as a result of heavy rains that affected various parts of the country in the past few days.
The government has confirmed that the deviation at Maphiveni along the MR24 has been completed and the reconstruction of the road failure is expected to be complete by the end of April 2023.
When the failure damage occurred, it affected residents as many struggled to get to work while children could not attend school. The Prime Minister, Cleopas Dlamini then toured the area to assess the damage and made an undertaking that the government would promptly attend to all road failures caused by the ongoing rains.
He highlighted that the damages posed a great danger to the nation and said it was key for the government to work around the clock to not only assess the damage but to plan how to repair it.
An assessment was also conducted by the Deputy Prime Minister, Themba Masuku in his capacity as the Minister of Disaster Management. He not only assessed the damage in the Lubombo Region but went on to see for himself the situation in the Shiselweni Region.
The assessment was carried out on a helicopter sponsored by Mercy Air, a mission aviation NGO from South Africa.
