Kusekhaya Cycling Club will send a team of seven cyclists to the Cape Town Cycle Tour later this month.

The event which covers 109km and 42km will be held on March 12, 2023. The cyclists are Felix Gamedze, Phephile Matsenjwa, Siphesihle Nhlabatsi, Zakithi Nhleko, Mpumelelo Dlamini, Shirley Saulus and Vitor Oliveira.

The Cape Town Cycle Tour is an annual race that attracts over 30 000 cyclists from all over the globe, making it the largest individually timed cycling race in the world.

The Club Principal Mduduzi Kaudi they were excited and proud of this race especially as the majority of the squad is women.

“Kusekhaya is excited and proud that for this race, women form the majority in the composition of our team. The participation of women in the sport remains one of our goals and we trust that the continued efforts and activities by the club will inspire other women to take up the sport, not only recreationally but competitively too,” he said.

He said the cyclists have been working hard since the start of the year preparing physically and mentally for the race.

“The race takes place on Sunday and we expect the team to be settled in Cape Town on Saturday and getting ready to take on the race. We expect them back in the Kingdom on Monday,” he said.

The finish for the 109km riders will be in the Green Point Precinct, and 42km riders will start and finish at the Grand Parade. The average finish time of the 109 km race is seven hours.

March is one of the busiest months for cyclists as they will also be competing in the Sisekelo MTB race, Cosmos 3in1 as well as Emperors Classic.
