Two men were arrested in SA for dagga possession

South African police have arrested two men from Eswatini for being found in possession of dagga in two separate incidents.

According to a statement made by the South African Police Service, the men aged 31 and 32 were arrested by members of the SAPS from Border Policing in Oshoek on two separate incidents after they were reportedly found with dagga to the total estimated street value of about more than E30 000.

One was nabbed in the early hours of Saturday, whilst another was apprehended on Friday, March 10. The police said on Friday, police were busy with their routine patrol duties and searched one of the two men who were at a hitch-hiking spot next to the Port of Entry in Oshoek.

That was when they discovered that he was in possession of the dagga weighing 5.8 kilograms with an estimated street value of E24,360. The 31-year-old man was then arrested and charged with dealing in dagga.

The second man is said to have come to the Oshoek Port of Entry, driving in a black VW Golf with registration number plates from Eswatini. The vehicle was searched on the arrival side where police found a black refuse bag stashed with a dagga weighing about 2.2 kilograms and with an estimated street value of E9 240 hidden on the bonnet of the car.

He was arrested and charged with dealing in dagga. The car was also confiscated for further investigation. The two suspects are expected to separately appear in court on Monday, March 13, 2023, facing the said charges.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi praised members from Border Policing for their diligence and hard work in addressing crime in-and-around the borders of the neighbouring countries.
