Davido’s ‘Timeless’ album continues to break records

Within a week of its release, Davido’s ‘Timeless’ album has broken several
records.

It has become the first African album in history to reach number one on US iTunes. In just eight days of release, Davido’s ‘Timeless’ has reportedly broken the record for the biggest African album in Apple Music history by first-day streams worldwide, broke the record for the most simultaneous African songs on Apple Music’s Global Daily Top 100, with nine, reached number two on Apple Music’s US Albums chart, a new record for an African album and also broke the record for the African album with the most simultaneous number one entries on Apple Music’s albums chart.

Similarly, Audiomack announced that Davido’s ‘Timeless’ had over 12 million streams in its first 24 hours of release, which is more than any other album on Audiomack ever.

The album reportedly also broke the record for the biggest first-day streams on Boomplay by tallying 7.25 million streams on opening day surpassing the previously set record by Burna Boy’s “Love, Damini” at 3.38 million streams.

Davido returned to the music scene after the death of his 3-year-old son, Ifeanyi, to break records on the various music streaming platforms.

Speaking to CNN, the award-winning Nigerian music star revealed the inspiration behind his fourth and record-breaking album, ‘Timeless’, stating that the title of the record explained itself.

“When I made this record, I had an out-of-body experience, as it took me to a whole other dimension. The feeling of this record, every time I listen to it transports you to another planet,” said Davido.
